Why go, and how to do it well

Talat Noi's street art covers the walls of the lanes around Soi Charoen Krung 22 and the alley leading to the riverside Rong Kueak shrine. The murals arrived with the Bukruk Urban Arts Festival in January 2016, and more have been added since, including the Amazing Thailand Phoenix Wall that the Tourism Authority of Thailand commissioned in 2020. They sit between engine-part workshops and old shophouses, which is a big part of the appeal.

It's free and there's nothing to book. Go in the morning, when the light is softer and the lanes are quieter, and keep to the edges, because the workshops are working businesses and motorbikes use the alleys. Hua Lamphong MRT is about 900 meters away, and the Song Wat murals are a short walk north.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture

Mind Your Feet

Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.

Ask Before Photographing

Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.

Go Early Morning

Big-name temples are dramatically less crowded in the first hour after opening. You'll also avoid the worst of the midday heat and get softer light for photos.
