Climb it. That's my advice, because the nine-tiered pagoda here isn't just something to photograph from the car park. Each floor has murals and religious artwork covering Buddhist history and Isan culture, and the tiers step back as you go up until you're out under the golden spire looking over Khon Kaen. It's the tallest thing on the skyline and the view earns the stairs.
Go early. The temple sits beside a lake, and the morning light gets the reflections working before the heat sets in and before the tour groups arrive. The grounds are kept tidy and stay fairly calm, with worshippers and travellers sharing the space without either getting in the other's way. If you've only got one cultural stop in Khon Kaen, this is the one I'd pick, and an hour is enough unless you linger over the murals.
