Hungry Bird Pai
Tucked along Rat Damrong Road in the heart of Pai, Hungry Bird has earned a devoted following among travellers for its fresh, thoughtfully prepared brunch and breakfast dishes. The menu spans both Western and Thai flavours, with highlights including avocado tortillas, cashew chicken, and smashed dishes alongside standout drinks like mango smoothies and strawberry matcha. Real bacon, quality coffee, and made-to-order food set it apart in a town where dining options vary widely. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried, fitting naturally into Pai's laid-back character. Service is noted as friendly and efficient, and the space draws a mix of international visitors and locals. Many travellers find themselves returning daily during their stay, drawn back by both the food quality and the welcoming environment. It functions equally well as a morning coffee stop or a leisurely midday meal. Good to know: Hungry Bird Pai opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM, seven days a week, so it is not an option for evening dining. Given its popularity, arriving closer to opening time or during the mid-afternoon lull is advisable during Pai's busy tourist season, typically November through February. No website is listed, so bookings or advance enquiries are not available online — visiting in person remains the straightforward approach.

Such a lovely chilled place. The food was to die for!!! So so yummy, we got the avocado tortilla, ham&cheese tortilla, iced caramel latte and the most stunning mango smoothie ive ever seen! Everything was delicious, didnt wait long for the food either. Lovely people. The road is a bit noisy with traffic but it doesnt take away from the amazing food they have here. 10/10
Went here genuinely every day I was in Pai - the food was absolutely incredible. Tried the strawberry matcha, mango smoothie, and both Thai and brunch food. The cashew chicken was amazing and the smashed avocado and eggs was equally insane. Must try if you’re in Pai!!
The best brunch spot in Pai! Came here every day of my trip and don’t regret it one bit. The food is absolutely scrumptious, and they have interesting drinks that are well worth the try!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
