Pasta Y by Chef-Tae

4.8(225 reviews)$$$$

Tucked into a residential neighbourhood away from Hua Hin's tourist centre, Pasta Y by Chef-Tae has built a quiet reputation as one of the area's most unexpected dining discoveries. The chef behind the kitchen has television credentials, having appeared on the Iron Chef programme, and that professional pedigree shows in the execution. Fresh pasta is made in-house, cooked al dente, and dishes are prepared with the kind of technique more commonly found in upscale restaurants. The mid-range pricing makes this level of cooking genuinely accessible. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried, situated in a local area where the surroundings give little indication of what awaits inside. The menu leans Italian, with pasta as the centrepiece, though some dishes draw on Thai flavours. Standout plates noted by returning visitors include the carbonara and a prawn dish with creamy omelette. The setting suits couples, small groups, and solo diners looking for a reliable, quality-focused dinner without the noise of central Hua Hin. Good to know: Pasta Y operates for dinner only, open daily from 5 PM to 9 PM, including weekends. The location in the Nong Kae area sits outside the main town, so arranging transport in advance is worthwhile. As seating appears limited and the restaurant draws repeat visitors, arriving earlier in the evening is a sensible approach, particularly on weekends.

A true hidden gem where you'd never expect to find grade A food served by a professional chef who appeared on the famous 'Iron Chef' show. The food was so good that we couldn't resist coming back here twice in a row, even though we only have a few days in Hua Hin. If you're a fan of spicy Southern food, this chef cooks up incredibly authentic dishes. And let me tell you, his pasta creations are mind-blowing! Try ordering a fusion pasta that combines Southern flavors—they're all so yummy! And you definitely shouldn't forget to order the Panna Cotta with pineapple ice cream. It's a truly fantastic combination of a Western dessert and Thai flavors. You won't be disappointed!

Restaurant is located in a local area where one would not expect an eatery. I went there twice and tried their prawn with creamy omelette. Fresh & crunchy prawns. Omelette prepared just right. Second them I tried their Southern curry with pork ribs. I heard that the chef is from the South? Not spicy, But a lot of heat. It goes well with rice. Will come again next time on my visit to Hua Hin.

Calm and cooling atmosphere, as if this place doesn't receive much customers. Staff were nice and friendly, and the food came out quickly. Everything tasted better than I thought, with the carbonara being creamy and sweet, etc

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
