Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Why go, and how to do it well
Woodbrook is the Chinatown café with the river. It sits on the third floor above a hostel on Song Wat Road, and while the inside is a cool, minimal loft with a blue bar, the reason to climb the stairs is the terrace, an open deck with beanbags looking straight over the Chao Phraya at the boats and the Thonburi bank. Drinks are the house specialties, coffee and soda blends with names like Sky Latte and Pink Skies at around ฿140 to ฿150, with plain coffees from about ฿120.
It is a place to sit rather than a coffee destination, and that is how to use it. After a hot morning walking Song Wat and Talat Noi, an hour on the deck is the break the neighborhood doesn't otherwise offer.
It is open every day from 10:00 to 19:00, and the late afternoon light on the river is the best time. It is up three flights of stairs. Song Wat Coffee Roasters is a few doors along the same road if you want a stronger cup first.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
Use Grab for Delivery
The Grab app works for food delivery across Thailand, letting you order from street stalls and restaurants alike. It's invaluable on rainy days or when you want to eat in your hotel.
