Chaweng Night Market Food Center

4.0(1,443 reviews)$$$$

Come hungry and come early-ish. This is a big open-air food hall in Chaweng where dozens of stalls cook to order, and the prices sit well under what the restaurants a few streets away charge for the same pad thai. Grilled seafood, curries, noodles, snacks, mango sticky rice, drinks. Portions are decent. Some evenings there's a live singer or a DJ going, which turns dinner into a longer sit-down than you planned.

Two honest warnings. It gets hot and packed, and more than one person has walked out because there was nowhere to sit and no air moving. And the spice is calibrated for Thai palates, not yours, particularly the seafood salads. Ask before you order if you're not sure. Ordering itself can be a scrum when a stall is three deep, so pick your queue and be patient.

My advice is a weekday evening rather than a weekend, when the crowds thin enough to actually enjoy the place.

Chaweng Night Market is a great spot if you’re looking for cheap, tasty food and lots of variety in one place. There’s a wide selection of stalls, from classic Thai dishes to snacks, desserts, and drinks, so it’s easy to find something no matter what you’re in the mood for. Prices are very affordable, especially compared to restaurants in the area, and portions are decent. It’s a relaxed, casual atmosphere where you can grab food, sit down, and just enjoy the night market vibe. It gets lively in the evening but doesn’t feel overwhelming, and it’s a fun place to stop whether you’re on your own or with friends. Overall, a nice, budget-friendly option in Chaweng with plenty of choice. Definitely worth checking out if you’re nearby.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls

Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
