The Xcape River Kwai
Set along the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi's Mueang district, this resort hotel draws its design inspiration from the region's famous railway history, creating an experience that goes well beyond standard accommodation. The property is known for its distinctive escape-room concept and thoughtfully themed rooms, positioning it as a standout choice for couples, families, and groups looking for something more immersive than a conventional hotel stay. Guests can expect modern, well-appointed rooms alongside a scenic riverside setting that delivers genuine tranquility. The on-site Bridge Bar and Bistro is a popular dining spot, and accommodation options include the xfloat luxe cabins, which offer private kayaks and patio views of the river — reviewers highlight the sunrise from these cabins as a particular highlight. The resort also serves as a practical base for exploring Kanchanaburi's wider attractions, including Erawan National Park, the Bridge over the River Kwai, and local temples. Good to know: Kanchanaburi has a tropical climate, and the cooler, drier months between November and February are generally the most comfortable time to visit. The resort is accessible by car or train from Bangkok in roughly 2.5 hours. Guests interested in the xfloat cabin accommodation or specific themed rooms are advised to book well in advance, particularly during peak season and Thai public holidays when availability fills quickly.

Visitor Reviews
I spent 3 wonderful nights at this unique riverside retreat for a golf outing with friends. The hotel is a true gem and can be considered a design icon. It takes its inspiration from the famous railway in Kanchanaburi and incorporates quirky and clever references to the railway in its industrial chic design. I stayed at a 'falling water pool villa' with spacious lounging areas both indoors and on a spectacular deck overlooking the river. Every luxury was provided in the villa including even a mini waterfall! Food was also great, with an unusual menu of tasty and well presented dishes. Everyone at Xcape River Kwai had a smile and service throughout was always gracious and from the heart. Xcape is a wonderful getaway from Bangkok or other Asian cities. The serene peace of the river and the calm yet quirky atmosphere of the resort provide a perfect way to relax and recharge.
Upon arriving at the resort, my guest celebrity Chef Prachan and I were warmly received by the front desk personnel. She proceeded to usher us to the dinner room whereby the lay out is spectacular and has a great ambience. Our orders were professionally taken and served in a timely manner. The service staffs attending to us were highly professional, well spoken and making sure that all our needs were met. I am also obligated to compliment to Chef Tor for his exceptional great culinary skills and warm personality. We look forward to our next visit in the near future.
Stayed for a night at xfloat luxe cabin , weather was really breezy and the sunrise was breathtaking from the patio. The private kayak was a huge plus and highly recommend to go for a morning paddle to enjoy the peaceful river. F&B is above average with great setting by the river side. Service is great, the place is very clean and well maintained. Highly recommended. Will definitely come back again someday.
Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts
Book Shoulder Season
May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.
Compare OTAs and Direct Rates
Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
