The Xcape River Kwai

4.7(1,271 reviews)

Set along the banks of the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi's Mueang district, this resort hotel draws its design inspiration from the region's famous railway history, making it a distinctive choice for travellers seeking something more considered than standard accommodation. The property blends modern comfort with a strong sense of place, and its escape-room concept and thoughtfully themed rooms have made it a popular choice for couples, families, and groups.

Guests can expect well-appointed rooms, a calm riverside atmosphere, and genuine attention to detail throughout the property. The xfloat luxe cabins are a standout option, offering private kayaks, patio access, and river views — reviewers frequently cite the sunrise from these cabins as a highlight of their stay. The on-site Bridge Bar and Bistro is well-regarded for both its food and setting, and the resort serves as a practical base for day trips to Erawan National Park, the Bridge over the River Kwai, and nearby temples.

I spent 3 wonderful nights at this unique riverside retreat for a golf outing with friends. The hotel is a true gem and can be considered a design icon. It takes its inspiration from the famous railway in Kanchanaburi and incorporates quirky and clever references to the railway in its industrial chic design. I stayed at a 'falling water pool villa' with spacious lounging areas both indoors and on a spectacular deck overlooking the river. Every luxury was provided in the villa including even a mini waterfall! Food was also great, with an unusual menu of tasty and well presented dishes. Everyone at Xcape River Kwai had a smile and service throughout was always gracious and from the heart. Xcape is a wonderful getaway from Bangkok or other Asian cities. The serene peace of the river and the calm yet quirky atmosphere of the resort provide a perfect way to relax and recharge.

Stayed for a night at xfloat luxe cabin , weather was really breezy and the sunrise was breathtaking from the patio. The private kayak was a huge plus and highly recommend to go for a morning paddle to enjoy the peaceful river. F&B is above average with great setting by the river side. Service is great, the place is very clean and well maintained. Highly recommended. Will definitely come back again someday.

Went there with the wife and kid for 10 year anniversary. Amazing and modern rooms, polite staff and beautiful property. Very calm annd peaceful. We ate many times at the bridge bar and bistro as prices were good and good quality food and options. Highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in Kanchanaburi

Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
