Why go, and how to do it well
Tha Khao is the beach of the village of the same name on Koh Yao Noi's northeast coast, about 1 km of sand beside the pier where the wooden boats from Krabi's Ao Thalane land. It feels more like village waterfront than resort beach, and that is the appeal.
At low tide a sandbank emerges and joins the beach to Koh Nui, a small island just offshore, and walking out across it is one of the simpler pleasures on the island. At high tide the bank disappears, so check the tide before you go. The village has a small evening market, and the hillside above the bay holds Tha Khao Bay View Restaurant, a breakfast and lunch spot that looks straight down over the water.

Tips for Visiting Beaches
Go Early for Empty Sand
Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. Sunrise walks on Kata, Chaweng, or Railay are magical — and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.
Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
Explore Beyond the Main Strip
Every popular beach area has quieter alternatives nearby. Rent a scooter and ride 10 minutes from Patong to find Freedom Beach, or head to Phuket's northeast coast for nearly empty shores.
