Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

Set in the hills of Mueang Krabi District, this national park protects a stretch of dense tropical jungle anchored by limestone peaks, offering a genuine wilderness escape from the region's busy coastline. Waterfalls are the main draw, with trails catering to a range of fitness levels — from easy, well-maintained walking paths that lead to a swimmable waterfall basin, to a demanding circular hike involving a steep climb and deep jungle immersion. A small temple within the park adds a cultural dimension to the visit, and camping is available for those wanting to stay longer. The atmosphere throughout is noticeably cooler and quieter than Krabi's coastal attractions, with thick forest canopy providing shade and fresh mountain air replacing sea humidity. The park is large and well-maintained, and visitor numbers remain low compared to busier nearby sites, making it a practical half-day or full-day excursion from Krabi town. Good to know: The entrance fee is 100 THB per person. Those tackling the more challenging trail should come properly equipped — leeches are present on the forest floor, making leech-proof socks and sturdy hiking boots strongly advisable. Trails can be slippery year-round due to wet jungle conditions. The dry season, running from November to February, offers the most comfortable hiking weather. Bring adequate water, as the terrain is more physically demanding than it may initially appear.
