Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

4.6(1,017 reviews)

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park sits in Mueang Krabi District and offers a genuine wilderness experience away from the region's beach crowds. The park protects a stretch of dense tropical jungle anchored by limestone peaks, with multiple waterfall cascades as the main draws. Trails range from easy, well-maintained walking paths suitable for casual visitors to a demanding circular hike that involves a steep climb and requires proper footwear. A small temple within the park adds a cultural dimension to the natural setting, and camping is reportedly available for those wanting to extend their stay. The atmosphere is peaceful and noticeably cooler than the coast, with fresh mountain air and thick forest canopy throughout. The easier waterfall trail allows visitors to swim at the base of the falls, while the more challenging routes reward hikers with deeper jungle immersion. The park is large, well-maintained, and uncrowded compared to busier Krabi attractions, making it a practical half-day or full-day excursion from Krabi town. Good to know: The entrance fee is 100 THB per person. The challenging trail involves leeches, so leech-proof socks and sturdy hiking boots are strongly recommended. Trails can be slippery due to wet jungle conditions year-round, and the dry season from November to February offers the most comfortable hiking weather. Bring sufficient water, as the terrain is more demanding than it may initially appear.

Visitor Reviews

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park is an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The park is lush, green, and full of natural beauty, with waterfalls, jungle trails, and fresh mountain air. It feels very authentic and far away from the busy tourist areas. The walking trails are well worth exploring and lead you deep into nature, where you can really enjoy the sounds of the forest and the scenery. It’s a perfect destination for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone looking for a calm and refreshing experience in Krabi. We truly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend this national park if you want to experience Thailand’s natural side.

Fantastic hike with a rather dangerous trail. Please go well prepared with hiking boots and leech-proof socks and shoes. It’s quite a challenging hike due to the climb at the start (we did the circle trail) If you plan to just go for the waterfall, it’ll be much easier to go from the other end of the trail (~10mins) . But the hike itself was very enjoyable and very very challenging. May actually go again (TW: Blood ; Note the blood in the media is only from leeches and nothing else)

A must see - beautiful park. Easy walking paths, temple, can hire a car to wander I heard, can camp - not sure if overnight allowed. Easy walking paths, lush green and peaceful. Ticket price - 100 THB for foreign nationals.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
