Smile Organic Farm Cooking School teaches on its own organic farm about 45 minutes east of Chiang Mai's Old City, near the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs. Every course starts with hotel pickup and a stop at a local market, then a walk around the farm's vegetable and herb beds before you cook. There's no fixed menu. You choose a dish in each category from the school's list, and every dish can be made vegetarian or vegan.
The full day runs 09:00 to 16:00 and costs ฿1,200, covering curry paste, a curry, a stir-fry, a soup, a salad, spring rolls and a dessert, plus a herbal drink. The half day (09:00 to 14:00) and the evening class (16:00 to 21:00) cost ฿900 and cover five categories, curry paste, curry, stir-fry, soup and spring rolls. The drive out is the reason the half day still takes most of a day.
Pickup is free within 3 km of the Old City, from 08:00 for the day classes and 15:00 for the evening. Children aged 9 and over get their own cooking station, younger children come as visitors, and non-cooking visitors pay ฿400 to ฿500. The booking office is Travel Smile on Samlan Road in the Old City.
