Why go, and how to do it well

Ban Mae Klang Luang is a Karen village on the slopes of Doi Inthanon, about 5 km east of the park headquarters, where the Pha Dok Siew nature trail comes out of the forest. Rice terraces step down the valley around it, and the villagers grow and roast their own coffee, which is the reason most day tours stop here for a cup.

I'd arrive on foot along the Pha Dok Siew trail rather than by road, because the walk past the waterfalls is the better half of the visit. The terraces are at their greenest late in the rainy season, roughly September to November, and much plainer once the rice is in.
