Why go, and how to do it well

The Royal Agricultural Station Inthanon is the royal project at Ban Khun Klang, about 1.5 km north of the Doi Inthanon park headquarters. It was set up in 1979 to give hill-tribe farmers crops to grow instead of opium, and today it's a spread of flower gardens and greenhouses of rhododendrons, ferns and hydroponic vegetables.

I'd treat it as a half-hour stop in the middle of the mountain rather than a destination, and pair it with Siriphum Waterfall just beyond, where Siamese sakura flowers for a few weeks in late January and early February.
