The Cottage Retreat sauna and ice cold bath Huahin
Tucked away in a lush garden setting in Hua Hin, this wellness retreat specialises in contrast therapy — pairing traditional sauna sessions with ice cold plunge baths to support circulation, muscle recovery, and mental rejuvenation. Visitors also have access to a pool and can book additional treatments such as body scrubs and massages, making it well suited to a full day of restorative relaxation rather than a quick stop. The atmosphere is a consistent highlight among guests, who describe it as calm, unhurried, and beautifully green — closer to a private garden sanctuary than a conventional spa. The owner and staff are noted for their warmth and attentiveness, and the setting encourages guests to slow down and stay a while. Food is also available on site, adding to the appeal of spending an extended afternoon here. Good to know: The retreat is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM, with slightly shorter hours on Tuesdays (closing at 5:00 PM versus 7:00 PM on all other days). Those new to contrast therapy are advised to allow plenty of time for each stage and not to rush the warm-up before attempting the cold plunge. Checking the website at cottageretreathuahin.com ahead of a visit is recommended for booking information, any health guidelines, and current pricing details.

Visitor Reviews
The Cottage Retreat feels less like a spa and more like stepping into a quiet private garden. The atmosphere is calm, green, and beautifully unhurried the kind of place where you immediately feel your shoulders relax. For just 590 THB, you can stay all day. From the moment you arrive, the experience feels thoughtful. A chilled herbal welcome drink is served lightly fragrant, with a noticeable lemongrass aroma that feels fresh and soothing. It’s simple, but it sets the mood perfectly. They gently wash your feet before you enter and provide comfortable attire to change into (a wrap skirt for women, relaxed pants for men). It’s these small, considerate touches that make you feel genuinely welcomed rather than just checked in. Inside, you’ll find a traditional Thai herbal steam room and a Himalayan salt sauna, along with a swimming pool, two ice baths (around 9–10°C, with the smaller one colder), and a warm pool at nearly 37°C. Alternating between hot and cold feels refreshing and revitalizing without being overwhelming. Massage services, food, and drinks are available, so you can truly slow down and spend the whole day there. Surrounded by greenery and a peaceful garden, it’s a place that allows you to reset quietly. If you’re looking to give your body a well-deserved break in a calm, unpretentious setting, this retreat is worth it.
What a beautiful place. From the moment my partner and I arrived, we knew it was going to be a complete relaxation day. Not a single negative word to say about this place. Great owner, hes definitely created a dream here. Amazing staff, could not do enough for you. And an amazing massage too. Facilities and the property itself are very good. Very clean and everything in its rightful place too. Food was great. And we can not leave Fred out, hes an adorable dog that loves a good cuddle. Such a stunning place. We highly recommend. Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
