About Raja Ferry Port (Donsak)

Raja Ferry Port at Donsak, on the coast east of Surat Thani, is the mainland terminal for Raja Ferry's car ferries to Lipa Noi on Koh Samui's southwest coast. Boats leave every hour from 05:00 to 19:00 on Raja's own schedule, every day, and the crossing takes about 1 hour 30, with extra sailings in the busy months from late December to April. The foot-passenger fare is ฿220, and cars and motorbikes ride on the same boats.

Most people arrive on a combined ticket from Surat Thani airport, the train station at Phun Phin or the town, and the coach drives straight onto the pier. Arriving on your own by taxi, you buy at the counter and take the next sailing, which is also the way to make Samui the same evening after the last combined tickets have gone, as long as you reach the pier before the 19:00 boat.

The terminal has a restaurant, toilets and a shop, which helps on a wait. Seatran's car ferries to Nathon leave from their own pier a short way along the coast, so check which company your ticket is for.

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.

Get a Rabbit Card for Bangkok

The Rabbit card is Bangkok's reloadable transit card for BTS Skytrain, and it also works at convenience stores and some restaurants. Buy one at any BTS station for 200 THB (100 deposit + 100 credit). It saves time queuing for single-journey tokens.
