Monte Cielo
Tucked into the scenic Sai Yok district of Kanchanaburi, Monte Cielo is a riverside restaurant and resort that stands out in the region for an unexpected reason: it serves genuinely good Mexican food alongside Thai dishes, in an area where international cuisine is rare. Quesadillas, and other Mexican staples draw return visitors, while the surrounding natural setting — river views, lush greenery, and an open, breezy layout — makes the dining experience as much about the atmosphere as the food. The property also features bungalows and river raft houses, meaning guests staying overnight can enjoy meals on-site throughout their visit. The restaurant has a relaxed, unhurried character that suits the pace of the Sai Yok area. The space is well-kept, the presentation is noted as careful, and the staff are consistently described as warm and welcoming. It works equally well as a lunch stop after exploring nearby natural attractions or as an evening spot for sundowners and dinner as the light fades over the water. Monte Cielo opens daily at 10:00 AM, with closing hours of either 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM depending on the day — Friday and Saturday close earlier at 8:00 PM, while the remaining days extend to 9:00 PM. Visitors planning an evening meal should note those Friday and Saturday closing times. The location in Tambon Tha Sao can be difficult to find without navigation, so checking the website at monte-cielo.com before travelling is a practical step worth taking.

Visitor Reviews
Mexican food is served in this restaurant, The food came out to us several times and were all delicious. The resort itself has many bungalows and a quite a few river raft houses. The swimming pool at night is mesmerising with it's many changing colours. What impressed me the most was how immaculately clean everything is, from the ground up, it's all spotless. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I will surely stay at this resort next time I visit Kanchanaburi.
A very quaint and relaxed restaurant. Everything is clean with the decor and location making it a great place for sundowners and dinner. The food is delicious with excellent presentation. The spice level of the food can be modified on request. Mexican food with a view that reminds me of home. A great find in the mountains.
The food is absolutely delicious!!! The vibe of the place is really cozy and the view of the surrounding area is incredible! And above all else, the staff is very kind, making me feel welcomed and right at home. I look forward to eating here again very soon!!! Thank you!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
