Lakeview Cafe and Restaurant

4.2(902 reviews)$$$$

Tucked beside a calm lake in Kanchanaburi, this cafe and restaurant draws visitors as much for its serene waterfront setting as for its food. The lakeside atmosphere is the clear drawcard here — unhurried, scenic, and well-suited to a slow coffee, a casual brunch, or a late-afternoon meal as the light softens over the water. The facilities are well-presented, the staff are noted as friendly and able to communicate in English, and the overall experience leans toward relaxed rather than rushed. Food quality and value are both considered solid for the price point, with visitors generally finding it a worthwhile stop rather than a destination purely for cuisine. The venue opens daily at 9:00 AM and closes at 7:00 PM, covering breakfast through to early evening across the full week. This makes it a flexible option when planning a day around Kanchanaburi's main sights, including the Bridge over the River Kwai and the nearby war cemeteries. A lakeside villa is also available on the property for those looking to extend their stay. Good to know: Reviewers mention that midday heat can make outdoor seating less comfortable during the warmer parts of the day. Visiting in the morning or late afternoon offers a noticeably more pleasant experience, with cooler temperatures and better light over the water. There is no website listed, so it is worth stopping in or calling ahead if you have specific questions about the menu or villa accommodation.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
