Lunch here is a race. Khao Soi Khun Yai is a lunch-only khao soi shop in a shaded yard on Soi Sri Poom 8, just inside the Old City's north moat, in front of Wat Khuan Kha Ma and about 100 m across the moat from Wat Lok Moli. The way in looks like a driveway into the temple grounds. It's open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and closed on Sundays, and the pots often run dry before closing, so aim to arrive before 13:00.
The menu is short, which I take as a good sign. Khao soi with chicken or beef, and a tom yam noodle soup, each with a side plate of pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime and roasted chili to season it yourself. The coconut curry broth is rich without swamping the noodles, and the crispy noodle nest on top stays crisp. Recent listings put a bowl at about ฿40 to ฿60, street-stall money for one of the city's reference versions.
Don't come expecting comfort. You share benches with strangers, you eat, you go, and there's no booking. It's an easy walk from Chang Phueak Gate, so pair it with Wat Lok Moli across the moat.
