Why go, and how to do it well
Koh Lone is the island you can see from Chalong Pier, about 1.5 kilometers off Phuket's south coast and roughly 3 kilometers long. It is not a snorkeling island, because the water in Chalong Bay is less clear than out at Racha or the Khai islands. It is an island for doing very little within sight of Phuket. A small Muslim fishing village of around thirty families sits on the east side and runs community tourism, with fishing trips, cooking and batik, and two small resorts on the beaches are the only places to stay.
That makes it a good fit for a night or two of quiet without a long boat ride, or a half-day by longtail for lunch and a swim. It is the opposite of the speedboat-tour islands, and the lack of a headline sight is why it stays calm.

Tips for Visiting Islands
Check Island Closures
Similan Islands, Surin Islands, and Koh Tachai close mid-May to mid-October. Some smaller islands reduce ferry service in monsoon season. Always verify schedules before planning your route.
Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy
Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.
Bring Cash to Smaller Islands
ATMs on smaller islands like Koh Kood, Koh Mak, and Koh Yao charge high fees and sometimes run out of cash. Withdraw enough on the mainland before heading over.
