The Legacy Riverkwai Resort (SHA Plus+)

4.3(928 reviews)

Set along the River Kwai in a remote stretch of Kanchanaburi province, this sprawling resort combines accommodation with a strong focus on outdoor activities and nature-based experiences. The property holds SHA Plus+ certification for health and hygiene standards, and its ecological ethos is evident throughout — mature trees shade the expansive grounds, resident elephants bathe in the river each afternoon, and the surrounding landscape remains genuinely quiet and green. It draws families, couples, and groups looking to step away from city life and engage with Thailand's natural environment. The resort grounds are large enough that a shuttle service runs between the bungalows, pool, and restaurant. Accommodation is in individual, spacious bungalows described by guests as rustic but clean and comfortable. Activities on offer include stand-up paddleboarding with professional coaching, cycling, and access to spa facilities, making it a practical base for both active travellers and those seeking a slower pace. Staff are consistently noted for their warmth and local knowledge. Good to know: the resort's remote location means it suits travellers who are happy to settle in for at least a night or two rather than using it purely as a day stop. The peak season runs from November to February, when weather is cooler and drier. Given the size of the grounds and the range of activities available, arriving with a rough plan for how to spend your time helps make the most of the stay.

Visitor Reviews

Everything was fabulous! All of the staff were super friendly and happy to talk about their area of expertise. The room is rustic but clean, comfortable and quiet. The area is huge, lovely to walk or bike around. You can rent bicycles. You can see the elephants every afternoon as they come to bathe, it is a hands-off elephant sanctuary to promote and protect wellbeing of these rescued elephants. You can also do other activities such as feed chickens and ducks, feed sheep, rent SUP boards etc. everything is done so well, we stayed two nights and could have easily stayed longer. There's a small playground, football pitch, swimming pool and lovely restaurant on the river. We will definitely be back again soon!

I attended with a large group, a beautiful, remote location that offered the perfect opportunity to switch off and reconnect with nature. The surroundings were calm, uplifting, and really enhanced the whole experience. The staff were absolutely amazing — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely supportive from start to finish. They created such a positive and inclusive atmosphere, making everyone feel comfortable and valued. I couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough and would happily attend again.

Highly recommend place for families, friends and couples who want to enjoy nature and outdoor sporting actives. If you’re into SUP, it’s great news as the place provides a professional coach that corrects your paddling form and pushes you hard. It’s the place for upstream paddling and get a decent workout done. For families there’s tons to do as well, including interaction with farm animals , cats and elephants !!

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
