Phuket Mountain Elephant Care
Nestled in the forested hills of Chalong, this ethical elephant sanctuary provides a meaningful alternative to conventional elephant tourism in Phuket. The facility is home to rescued and retired elephants, with a philosophy centred on animal welfare and conservation education rather than performance or rides. Visitors consistently describe the experience as emotionally moving, noting the visible care and respect shown to the animals by staff and guides. A typical visit involves feeding, bathing, and walking alongside the elephants through a natural forest environment, giving guests genuine insight into the animals' behaviour and daily needs. Guides are attentive and knowledgeable, taking time to educate visitors about each elephant's history and personality. The atmosphere is described by guests as warm, peaceful, and well-organised, with English-speaking guides ensuring clear communication throughout. Good to know: The sanctuary operates daily from 08:30 to 16:00, accommodating full-day visits. Advance booking through the official website is strongly recommended, as spots are limited. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for forest terrain, and bring quick-dry clothing and a waterproof bag for valuables, as bathing activities will result in wet clothes. Sun protection is advisable, as much of the experience takes place outdoors.

Visitor Reviews
We had the most incredible experience at Phuket Mountain Elephant care! 100% recommended to anyone wishing to experience an ethical and reputable elephant nature reserve. It is a newly built reserve, the four elephants they have are all beautifully cared for. They are treated with care and respect, the reserve is stunning with beautiful greenery and waterfalls. It is a total paradise for the elephants and for anyone visiting. We were lucky enough to meet two of the gorgeous elephants, Ya Ya and (sorry I forgot the other name) we were able to bathe them, but not without the elephents bathing by themselves first. We also made them their vitamin balls for feeding and were able to hand feed them. My husband booked this experience for our honeymoon and it was a highlight of our trip. Worth going early morning, we were with 4 other people making it a very exclusive experience overall. The staff were so friendly and even emailed us professional photos as keepsakes for the day. Please chose to come here and support the reserve if you plan to visit any elephants in Phuket. 🙏🏻🩷🐘🐘🐘🐘
Visiting Phuket Mountain Elephant Care was one of the most beautiful and emotional experiences we had in Phuket. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing — full of warmth, care, and positive energy.🫶🏻 The elephant was simply wonderful — calm, kind, and very gentle. He even walked with us as if seeing us off, which was incredibly touching. You can truly feel that the elephants are loved and well cared for here.♥️♥️♥️ The team is very friendly and welcoming. A special thank you to the wonderful photographer — we now have so many stunning photos to remember this experience. The guide was excellent and shared very interesting stories.🥰 Phuket Mountain Elephant Care is a must-visit place and definitely number one in Phuket. They genuinely care about the elephants, and this place leaves you with unforgettable memories and a warm heart. 🐘♥️
Visiting the elephants here was truly magical. You can feel how much love, respect, and care they receive every single day. Seeing these gentle giants in such a peaceful and natural environment was deeply touching. From the very beginning, we were perfectly taken care of, and our guide was absolutely amazing – kind, professional, and very inspiring. She made the whole experience even more special. We traveled all the way from Norway, and we can wholeheartedly recommend everyone visiting Thailand to come and experience this place. Thank you for the beautiful memories that we will carry in our hearts forever. 💚🐘 Lumír and Karynka 😍😍

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
