No riding here, and no circus tricks either. That's the whole point of this place, and it's the reason I'd send you here rather than to one of the roadside camps you'll pass on the way to Khao Lak. You feed the elephants, you walk with them, you help bathe them, and the staff talk you through where each animal came from and what conservation actually involves in Thailand. It's calm, it's hands-on, and it works just as well for kids as it does for someone traveling alone.
The setting is rural Takua Pa, well outside the beach strip, so you'll want a transfer or your own transport rather than assuming you can wander over. Doors are open 08:30 to 17:30 daily, which gives you the choice of a morning session before the heat builds or an afternoon one. I'd take the morning.
