Jo Garden And Viewpoint

4.8(21 reviews)

Perched on a hill in the Mae Nam area of Koh Samui, Jo Garden And Viewpoint is a scenic spot where visitors can take in panoramic views across the island while relaxing with a drink in a welcoming, informal garden setting. The atmosphere is unhurried and personal, with a hospitable host who makes guests feel at home. It is particularly popular as a sunset-watching destination, combining natural scenery with a laid-back social environment. The garden itself is the private grounds of a residence rather than a landscaped attraction, so visitors should arrive expecting an authentic, low-key experience rather than a manicured tourist site. The viewpoint is the clear highlight, and the opportunity to enjoy a cold beer while watching the sun go down over Koh Samui is what draws most visitors back. Access is a critical practical consideration here. There are two approach roads: the recommended route comes from Nathon, which is manageable for standard vehicles. The road from the Mae Nam side is steep, partially unpaved, and has been reported as washed out in sections, making it unsuitable for ordinary cars and requiring a 4WD vehicle at minimum. Visitors arriving by scooter should exercise caution on either route. The viewpoint is open daily from 8:00am to 8:00pm, making it accessible throughout the day, though arriving in the late afternoon is ideal for catching the sunset.

Visitor Reviews

We gave 5 stars as we didn't want to harm the business but we didn't actually arrive. The road is extremely steep and at some point me point becomes a dirt track with large ridges that make it very likley anyone not in a 4x4 will get in trouble. Our car just about made it up the hill to the dirt tra k after that we turned back. A bike may make it depending on your skill level.

Beautiful view and a lovelee home with drinks where you can watch the sunset! BIG THING: the road comming up from the northeast side (Maenam) is totally washed away! Impossible to get up with the car and only for experienced scooter/ motor drivers. Apparently the road from the west side is a beautiful gently slope…

Whoever left less than 5 stars for this place is deluded (google doesn’t let me write what I truly believe). The best place on the island! Highly recommend to anyone to come over, have a beer, meet the owners who are incredibly nice and get lost in the unbelievable view! 🤩

Thong Nai Pan is the pair of horseshoe bays on Koh Phangan's northeast corner that many rate the island's best all-round base — Thong Nai Pan Yai, the larger southern bay with a village feel and family resorts, and Thong Nai Pan Noi, the more polished northern bay where the island's smarte.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
