Why go, and how to do it well

Tham Khao Mai Khew is a limestone cave in the forested hills of central Koh Lanta, and a visit is a scramble rather than a stroll. A local guide leads you on a short, steep hike to the entrance, then through the chambers by flashlight, climbing over rock and squeezing through gaps, which is exactly why people rate it.

I'd go if you're steady on your feet and happy to get dirty. Wear laced shoes and dark clothes you don't mind ruining, and skip it with small children or anyone uneasy in tight spaces. The family runs a small restaurant at the start, which is the place for a drink afterward.
