Sala Keo Kou

Sala Keo Kou is an extraordinary outdoor sculpture park located near the banks of the Mekong River in Nong Khai, featuring an extensive collection of massive concrete religious statues drawn from both Buddhist and Hindu traditions. The sculptures range from towering multi-headed nagas and giant Buddhas to elaborate depictions of demons, gods, and mythological scenes, all created under the vision of a local spiritual teacher. The sheer scale and density of the artwork makes this one of the more visually striking and unconventional religious sites in northeastern Thailand. Visitors can walk along garden paths that wind between the statues, many of which reach several storeys in height. The atmosphere is simultaneously spiritual and otherworldly, drawing travellers with an interest in religious art, folklore, and unusual cultural landmarks. The park is open every day from 8:00am to 6:00pm, making it easy to incorporate into a day trip from Udon Thani or as part of a broader visit to Nong Khai town. Good to know: the site is outdoors and exposed, so visiting in the cooler morning hours is advisable, particularly during the hot season between March and May. Modest dress is respectful given the religious nature of the sculptures. The park is well-signposted from central Nong Khai and is commonly reached by tuk-tuk or private transport, as public transport options to the site are limited.
