Bali Hai Pier

4.4(14,917 reviews)

The ferry beats the speedboat, and here's why. For about 30 baht you get a 45-minute crossing that drops you straight at Tawaen Beach on Koh Larn. Speedboats cost more, get you there quicker, then land you on the east side of the island where you'll need a tuk-tuk to reach the beaches anyway. Unless you're in a genuine hurry, the maths doesn't work in the speedboat's favour.

This is the main departure point on Pattaya's southern seafront, and it works like a proper working harbour. Ticket counters are clearly marked, staff will point you the right way if you look lost, and boats run often enough that you're rarely stuck waiting long. It gets crowded at peak times and around holidays, and there's a fair bit of noise and shuffling about. That's just how it goes. The sea view while you queue takes the edge off. Yachts and charters to other islands can be arranged here too, with prices varying by destination.

Reviews from Google

The Bali Hai Pier is where you can find ferries and speedboats to reach the Coral Islands. Ferries are the most affordable option, costing 30 baht and taking around 45 minutes to reach the island. We can also take speedboats. To avoid crowds and enjoy the beaches, it's best to arrive early in the morning.

Good starting point for trips to Koh Larn. The pier is easy to find and well-organized, with clear ticket counters and frequent boat departures. It can be busy, but everything moves fast. Beautiful sea view while waiting!

Bali Hai Pier Busy but very important pier in Pattaya. This is the main departure point for ferries and speedboats to Koh Larn and nearby islands. Boats run frequently from morning to evening, so you don’t have to wait long. Ticket counters are easy to find, and staff usually guide you if you look confused. The area can get crowded, especially during peak hours and holidays. Expect some noise and a bit of chaos, but that’s normal here. Parking is available, and you can reach the pier easily by taxi, Grab, or bike. There are small shops around for drinks and snacks. If you’re planning an island trip, this is the place you’ll start from. Go early in the morning for a smoother experience and less crowd. Overall, functional, well-located, and unavoidable if you want to explore the islands around Pattaya.

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Take the Sleeper Train at Least Once

The Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight train in a second-class sleeper berth is a bucket-list experience. Book at least a week ahead via 12Go.asia or at Hua Lamphong station. Upper berths are cheaper and have more headroom; lower berths have a window.

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.
