The pier handles steady traffic, particularly during weekends and Thai public holidays when visitor numbers to Koh Samet increase significantly. The pier area is functional rather than scenic, with ticket counters, waiting areas, and vendors operating nearby. Boat services are shared among several operators, and travellers should expect a crossing time of roughly 30 minutes depending on the vessel and departure point on the mainland. Longtail boats and larger ferries both service this route, with pricing varying by boat type. Good to know: travellers arriving by bus or minivan from Bangkok or Pattaya will typically be dropped at Ban Phe pier on the mainland, not at Koh Samet itself.
