Why go, and how to do it well
This is the Koh Phangan that doesn't make it onto the flyers. A working Buddhist temple, shrine buildings and statuary, monks going about their day, and very little in the way of tourist infrastructure. If your idea of the island is Haad Rin at 2am, half an hour here will recalibrate you.
Don't come expecting a grand attraction. It's a local wat, and the appeal is exactly that. You're a guest in somebody's neighborhood temple rather than a ticket holder. Go early, while it's still cool and the light is soft, and keep your voice down. Walk the grounds, look at the shrines, and leave when it feels right. That's the whole visit, and it's better for being short. It pairs well with a morning spent exploring the quieter middle of the island rather than tacked onto a beach day.
