สวนอาหารไทรทองริเวอร์ Saithongriver Restaurant
Sitting along the riverbank in Ayutthaya's Pratuchai district, this mid-range Thai restaurant draws both locals and visitors with its waterfront setting and a menu built around river fish, seafood, and familiar Thai staples. The riverside position provides a scenic backdrop that many diners find adds genuine atmosphere to the meal, particularly when seated outdoors near the water. The kitchen covers a broad range of Thai classics — pad kra pao, green curry, som tum, and various fish and seafood preparations all feature regularly. Visitor experiences are genuinely mixed: those who enjoy it highlight the flavours, the ambience, and the quality of the seafood, while others have found the food underwhelming and the service inconsistent, particularly during busier periods. The riverside setting is consistently noted as a highlight, and for travellers already exploring Ayutthaya's nearby historic sites, it serves as a convenient lunch or dinner stop with a stronger sense of place than many alternatives in the area. Good to know: The restaurant opens daily from 10:00 to 22:00, accommodating both lunch and dinner with no weekly closures. Peak tourist seasons can bring noticeably long wait times, so arriving in the mid-afternoon lull between lunch and dinner crowds is a practical way to avoid delays. No website is listed, making walk-ins the standard approach. There is no booking option to plan around, so flexibility helps.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
