My advice is to treat it as an add-on. If you're already heading to Bang Pa-in Royal Palace, or driving in or out of Ayutthaya from Bangkok, it's an easy stop. If you're temple-hopping around the old city without your own wheels, I wouldn't bother making the trip specially. It's a highway location, so you're looking at a car, a taxi or a hired driver either way. Browsing is the point here. Go in with a rough list and you'll be out in an hour, or wander and lose two.
