Destination guide
November to February for cool, dry days, April for the heat and Songkran, September for the rain.
The best time to visit Bangkok is November to February, the cool, dry season. December is the driest and least humid month with the coolest nights, and January and February are almost as good. March to May is the hot season, peaking in April with average highs of 36°C, which is also when Songkran turns the city into a water fight. May to October brings the southwest monsoon, mostly as afternoon and evening storms, with September the wettest month. Bangkok copes with rain better than a beach does, so the rainy season is a fair time for a city trip at lower hotel prices.

Bangkok has three seasons rather than four. The cool season, November to February, is dry, sunny and only cool by Thai standards, with days in the low 30s and the least humid air of the year. The hot season, March to May, peaks in April, when the heat and humidity make midday sightseeing hard work. The rainy season, May to October, brings storms on most days, usually in the afternoon or evening, with September the wettest month.
The rain changes less in Bangkok than on a beach. The BTS Skytrain, MRT and river boats keep running, malls and museums fill the wet hours, and mornings are often dry. What it does change is the streets, which can flood for an hour or two after a heavy storm, so give yourself time when you need to be somewhere.
For sightseeing on foot, November to February. For festivals, Chinese New Year in late January or February, Songkran in April and Loy Krathong in November. For lower hotel prices, May to October. For the least crowded temples, early mornings in any month, when the Grand Palace and Wat Pho are calmest.

I lived in Bangkok for four years and traveled the country from there. The guides are my own opinions, written the way I'd explain them to a friend planning a trip.
