Is June a Good Time to Visit Thailand?

June is the start of the green season, and a good month if the plan fits it. The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is rainy with rough seas, and Koh Chang gets very wet, but the Gulf islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao), Hua Hin and Pattaya get a sunny stretch. Bangkok and Chiang Mai have storms most afternoons and dry mornings. Prices are low and the crowds are gone, which makes June good value for anyone who doesn't need a guaranteed blue sky every day.

Where to Go in Thailand in June

The Gulf coast is the answer for beaches in June. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Hua Hin get far less rain than Phuket and Krabi, and the sea on the Gulf side is calmer.

Bangkok and the north, between storms

City sightseeing works fine in June, since storms are short and the trains keep running. The north is green and the burning-season haze is long gone.

Skip Koh Chang

June to September is Koh Chang's wettest stretch, with some of the highest rainfall in the country. Save it for November to April.

Festivals and Holidays in June

June is quiet for festivals, which is part of its low-season appeal.

3 June, Queen Suthida's birthday

A public holiday. Banks and government offices close.

Phi Ta Khon, Dan Sai (Loei), June or July

The ghost festival in the small northeastern town of Dan Sai, with masked dancers and processions. The dates are set by local spirit mediums each year, so check before planning a trip around it.

Full Moon Party, 19 June 2027

Haad Rin, Koh Phangan, in one of the island's drier months.

Prices, Crowds and Booking Ahead

Low season. Hotel prices are well below the winter peak, especially on the Andaman coast, and you can usually book a few days ahead. Some smaller resorts on Koh Chang and the outer islands close until the season returns.

What to Pack for Thailand in June

A light rain jacket or umbrella

For the afternoon storms. Most mornings are dry.

Quick-dry clothes and sandals

Streets can flood briefly after a storm, so sandals beat sneakers.

A dry bag

For boat trips and sudden downpours.

Sun protection

The sun between storms is strong, especially on the Gulf islands.
