Why go, and how to do it well
Kew Fin is the viewpoint above Mae Kampong, about 3 km up a steep road into Chae Son National Park, on the ridge that marks the border between Chiang Mai and Lampang. At 1,517 m it looks out over ridge after ridge, and on cool-season mornings the valleys below fill with mist, the sea of clouds Mae Kampong is known for.
Go for sunrise. Most visitors ride up in the back of a songthaew arranged in the village, and there's coffee and a snack at the top, then a short walk up some steps to the view. The road is steep, so check your brakes if you ride a scooter, and bring a warm layer for the cold dawn.
