Elephant Nature Park

The one and only real ethical Elephant Sanctuary in Chiang Mai! A lot other Parks claim to be ethical but they are not. It's not ethical if you can bath with elephants or feed them or ride them or even touch them (imagine if 100 people would touch you every day!). We (family with kids) had a fantastic time ther with the morning tour. The pick-up and drop-off at the hotel worked perfect. A guide is walking with a group of around 20 people through the park and you are with the elephants. You stay together as a group and the groups are at different places - that's a great approach. Our guide Waroon gave us a lot of information and was very funny. You have enough time to observe the elephants and to take pictures. After the tour you can enjoy a very good vegan lunch with a big choice at a nice place. There are a lot of people but its not over-crowded and well organized. Thanks to the ENP team. An unforgettable and truly meaningful experience. The elephant nature park is a genuine sanctuary for elephants that have been rescued from abuse elsewhere in Thailand, particularly from tourist attractions that exploit them. The focus on the elephants’ wellbeing is clear, we kept a respectful distance while still being able to interact and observe them in a natural, ethical way. It was incredibly moving to see how well they are cared for. Joe, our tour guide, was fantastic and very knowledgeable, sharing so much information about the elephants and their stories throughout the morning. The food buffet was also amazing, with a great variety and really delicious options, which was a lovely surprise. This was one of the most special experiences of our trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting an ethical elephant encounter.

Visiting Elephant Nature Park was one of the most meaningful experiences of our entire trip to Thailand. If you care about animal welfare, this is the place to go. They do not allow elephant riding or forced interaction, which was extremely important to us. The focus here is on rescue, rehabilitation, and allowing the elephants to live as naturally as possible. You observe them on their terms, and that’s exactly how it should be. The setting is absolutely beautiful — lush countryside north of Chiang Mai with mountains, open land, and a river running through the sanctuary. Just being there feels peaceful. Watching the elephants roam, socialize, bathe, and simply be elephants in a safe environment was unforgettable. What makes the visit especially powerful is learning the individual stories of the elephants — many rescued from logging, riding camps, or other harsh conditions. The staff and volunteers are deeply knowledgeable and clearly committed to ethical care. You leave not just with great memories, but with a deeper understanding of why responsible tourism matters. This is not a flashy entertainment experience — and that’s the point. It’s thoughtful, respectful, and focused on the well-being of these incredible animals. Our visit included a delicious vegetarian lunch. It was a great ending to a perfect half-day visit. We would recommend Elephant Nature Park to anyone visiting northern Thailand who wants an ethical, educational, and genuinely moving experience.
