Why go, and how to do it well
Climb it early or don't bother. This is an old volcano on the edge of Buriram city, and in a province as flat as this one, that hill is the only high ground worth walking up. Stone steps take you to the crater rim and the summit, where a Buddha statue looks out over the province. The climb isn't brutal, but the steps are uneven in places, so wear something better than flip-flops.
It's more a local park than a tourist attraction, which I like. People come here for morning walks and to sit under the trees, and the shade genuinely helps once the lowland heat sets in. Come at 8am when the gates open and you'll get cooler air and better light for the view. Come at midday and you'll get the full force of an Isan afternoon on exposed stone.
Budget a couple of hours. It pairs well with a day in Buriram rather than filling one on its own.
