Buriram Municipal Fresh Market

Come at dawn or don't bother. This is Buriram's municipal wet market, the place where the city actually buys its dinner, and the produce, meat and seafood stalls are at their best before the heat sets in. By mid-afternoon you're looking at leftovers and a lot of packing up.

What I'd go for is the cooked food. Prepared Thai snacks and ready-to-eat dishes are sold from stalls throughout the market, cheap and Isaan through and through, and it's a far better breakfast than anything you'll get in a hotel. Household goods fill out the rest. Nobody has dressed this up for visitors, so expect wet floors, uneven ground and vendors who won't be speaking much English. Point at what you want, or use a translation app. Wear shoes you don't mind soaking, and skip the flip-flops in the meat section.

It's on Sunthon Thep in Tambon Nai Mueang, central enough to fold into a morning walk around the city rather than plan a trip around.
