Visa Extension in Bangkok

Counter K at IT Square for visa-exempt stamps, Chaeng Watthana for tourist visas, ฿1,900 either way

By Mac Kiley · 8 min read · Updated Oct 31, 2026

In Bangkok, a 30-day visa exemption stamp is extended at Counter K on the 3rd floor of IT Square Laksi, and a 60-day tourist visa at Immigration Division 1 in the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, both for ฿1,900 and up to 30 more days. You can also start online through e-Extension and collect the stamp at Chaeng Watthana. Either way, go before the date on your entry stamp.

Offices and floors are from Bangkok Immigration's notice of 28 September 2026 as published by the Government Public Relations Department, its Counter K poster and its contact page. Counter K's hours are from visitors' reports. The Building B hours and queue-ticket times are from that contact page, read as an archived copy. The e-Extension address is from VFS Global's FAQ for the Immigration Bureau.

IT Square Laksi, Counter K, for Visa-Exempt Entries

Counter K is Bangkok Immigration's short-term extension counter, on the 3rd floor of IT Square Laksi Plaza on Chaeng Watthana Road. Its own poster lists what it handles, visa exemption stamps, Visa on Arrival, transit and courtesy visas, the APEC card, a lost passport or arrival card and arrival stamp corrections. The 60-day Tourist Visa isn't on that list, which is why visa services send tourist-visa holders to Chaeng Watthana instead.

Two floors share the building, so check the floor. The 2nd floor of IT Square has a separate immigration service center for migrant workers, and that isn't where tourists extend.

Step by Step at Counter K

Visitors' accounts describe the same sequence. You pick up the forms at the first desk, where filled-in examples are posted on the wall, and complete them with the full address where you're staying, not just the hotel's name, because incomplete forms are handed back. The next queue checks your paperwork and takes your photo and copies. Then you wait for your number in the processing room, pay ฿1,900 in cash and have a photo taken, and your passport comes back with the new stamp.

Copy shops line the route to the first desk on the 3rd floor and print photos on the spot, and one visitor paid about ฿104 for the copies. I'd still bring my own copies and a 4×6 cm photo so the copy-shop line isn't another wait. When the stamp is in, read the new date before you leave the counter.

Getting to IT Square

Take the SRT Dark Red Line to Lak Si. Bangkok Immigration's own directions use Gate 3 of Lak Si station, which comes down on the local road opposite IT Square. The MRT Pink Line also stops at Lak Si, at the same intersection.

From the Sukhumvit side, ride the BTS Sukhumvit Line north to Wat Phra Sri Mahathat and change to the Pink Line, two stops west to Lak Si. From Silom, the Old Town or the river, take the MRT Blue Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat (Bang Sue) and change to the Dark Red Line north to Lak Si.

Bangkok Immigration's Facebook page posts closures, as it did when every service center shut for floods on 28 and 29 September 2026. Check it the morning you go.

The Bangkok Immigration Office at Chaeng Watthana, for Tourist Visas and e-Extension

The office most people mean by Bangkok immigration is Immigration Division 1, in Building B (the Ratthaprasasana Phakdi Building, South Zone) of the Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road in Lak Si. Its public service floors are the 2nd and 3rd. Tourist Visa and Tourist e-Visa holders extend here, and visa services name Counter J for them. The e-Extension counter, where online applications are stamped, is on the 3rd floor.

Division 1's contact page gives office hours of 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, closed on public holidays, with queue tickets handed out from 08:30 to 15:30. I'd be there for the 08:30 opening.

Step by Step at Building B

Take a queue ticket for your counter, hand in the TM.7 with your passport, copies, photo and fee when your number is called, and wait for the passport to come back stamped. If you applied online, go to the e-Extension counter on the 3rd floor with your passport and the approval email instead. The application isn't finished until the stamp is in your passport.

Getting to Chaeng Watthana

The MRT Pink Line has a Government Complex station on Chaeng Watthana Road beside the complex, two stops west of Lak Si. From Sukhumvit, stay on the Pink Line past Lak Si; from the Dark Red Line, change to the Pink Line at Lak Si. Bangkok Immigration's directions, written before the Pink Line opened, send people through Gate 2 of the complex to Building B, and buses 66 and 166 stop at the Government Complex.

I couldn't confirm the walking route from the Pink Line station to Building B. Allow time for a motorbike taxi or a short walk inside the complex, and don't try to park there; the office's page says parking at Gate 2 isn't allowed and points drivers to the parking building at Gate 3.

Using e-Extension in Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the eight provinces on the Immigration Bureau's online e-Extension system, run by VFS Global, and its tourism category takes both the 30-day exemption and the 60-day tourist visa. You upload the TM.7, passport copies, your entry stamp and a 4×6 cm photo, pay ฿1,900 plus a ฿500 service fee by card, and wait one to seven working days for a decision.

In Bangkok the stamp is collected at the e-Extension counter in Building B at Chaeng Watthana, the address VFS gives. I couldn't confirm that Counter K at IT Square stamps online applications, so if you apply online, plan on Chaeng Watthana. You can only apply with less than 45 days left on your stamp, and the hub's online section has the full process.

When to Go, and How Long It Takes

Go on a weekday morning, before the date on your stamp. The 30 days are added to the end of your current permission, so going a week early costs you nothing, and visa services say walk-in offices take applications up to 30 days ahead. Bangkok's offices close on weekends and public holidays, so if your stamp ends on one, go on the last working day before it.

Queue tickets stop at 15:30 on Bangkok Immigration's own pages, and visitors to IT Square report that numbers can run out around 15:00. One visitor's account puts the whole visit at under an hour on a quiet morning and three to four hours for anyone caught by the lunch break.

Bangkok Immigration's website has had an online queue booking, but visitors report that slots are often full, that the booking system goes down, and that a booking only skips the first line, not the wait for processing. Walk-ins are served, so I wouldn't wait for a slot if your stamp is close to its end.

Arriving early, with every document, doesn't guarantee the extension. The officer decides, and the ฿1,900 isn't refunded if you're turned down.

What to Bring

A completed TM.7

Counter K hands out the forms, but you can fill one in beforehand. Write "Immigration Division 1, Bangkok" where the form says Written at. My TM.7 guide walks through every field.

One 4×6 cm photo

Larger than a passport photo. The 3rd floor at IT Square prints them, but bringing one saves a line.

Passport and copies

Copies of the photo page and the page with your entry stamp. The hub's checklist covers what's official and what officers sometimes add, like a TM.30 receipt.

฿1,900 in cash

Visitors report paying cash at the counter. Online through e-Extension you pay by card instead.

Bangkok Immigration Offices That Don't Extend Tourist Stays

Searching for Bangkok immigration brings up several offices that won't help with a tourist extension. Sub-Division 3 at One Bangkok on Rama IV is the Thailand Investment and Expat Service Center, a one-stop office for investors and professionals on BOI, LTR and Smart visas. The service centers at IT Square's 2nd floor, Imperial World Ladprao and Big C Dao Khanong are for migrant workers from four neighboring countries.

The airports and Bangkok Port have their own immigration checkpoints, and Division 1's contact page says it covers Bangkok except the airports and ports, so plan on Division 1's offices, not Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang. Map searches also show the Immigration Bureau's headquarters, which isn't one of the Division 1 service centers in Bangkok Immigration's notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Visa Extension in Bangkok.

At Counter K, the Temporary Visa Extension Service Center on the 3rd floor of IT Square Laksi on Chaeng Watthana Road, beside Lak Si station. Bangkok Immigration's poster for the counter lists visa exemption stamps first among what it handles. The extension adds up to 30 days for ฿1,900.

At Immigration Division 1 in Building B of the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex. The Tourist Visa isn't on Counter K's list, and visa services send tourist-visa and e-Visa holders to Building B, where they name Counter J.

Monday to Friday from 08:30, with a lunch break around 12:00 to 13:00, closed weekends and public holidays. Visitors report the counter closing to new applicants around 15:00 to 15:30. Check Bangkok Immigration's Facebook page for closures before you go.

Building B is open 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, and closed on public holidays. Queue tickets are handed out from 08:30 to 15:30, according to Immigration Division 1's contact page.

No. Both IT Square's Counter K and Building B at Chaeng Watthana work Monday to Friday only. If your stamp ends on a weekend or public holiday, go on the last working day before it.

No, walk-ins are served. Bangkok Immigration's website has had an online queue booking, but visitors report that slots are scarce and that a booking only skips the first line. Arriving at 08:30 matters more.

Usually the same day. Visitors to IT Square report under an hour on a quiet morning and three to four hours if they get caught by the lunch break. Through e-Extension the decision takes one to seven working days, then one visit to Chaeng Watthana for the stamp.

At the e-Extension counter on the 3rd floor of Building B, Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, 120 Soi Chaengwattana 7, the address VFS Global gives for Bangkok. Bring your passport and the approval email.

It's the Immigration Bureau command responsible for Bangkok, based in Building B of the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex. Counter K at IT Square and the expat center at One Bangkok are both its service centers.

No. The immigration office at One Bangkok is part of the Thailand Investment and Expat Service Center, which serves BOI, LTR and Smart Visa holders and their employers. Tourists extend at IT Square or Chaeng Watthana.

Plan on Immigration Division 1 instead. The airport immigration desks are checkpoints for arrivals and departures, I found no official page offering tourist extensions there, and Division 1, which handles Bangkok's extensions, says it covers the city except the airports and ports. Go to IT Square or Chaeng Watthana before your stamp ends.

Take the SRT Dark Red Line or the MRT Pink Line to Lak Si. Bangkok Immigration's directions use Gate 3 of the Red Line station, which faces IT Square across the local road. From Sukhumvit, ride the BTS north to Wat Phra Sri Mahathat and change to the Pink Line.
