Why go, and how to do it well
Malibu Beach is the western end of Chaloklum Bay on Koh Phangan's north coast, a short ride past the fishing village. The sand is fine and pale, much softer than the working beach in front of Chaloklum, and a line of round, leaning trees gives it the shade most of the island's beaches lack.
The water is clear and sheltered, but it stays shallow a long way out, so this is a beach for wading, floating and lying in the shade rather than lap swimming. Volleyball nets and a beach bar give it a social, laid-back feel, and on windy days the fine sand blows around.
Combine it with lunch in Chaloklum village, or with the longtail to Bottle Beach, which leaves from Chaloklum a few minutes away. A songthaew from Thong Sala pier to Chaloklum is about ฿150 to 250 a person.
