Nong Prajak Park

Come at either end of the day and skip the middle entirely. This is Udon Thani's lakeside park, and between roughly 10am and 4pm it's a hot walk around water with not much shade relief. Early morning and late afternoon are when it works, with joggers on the lakeside trails, people on the outdoor exercise machines, the light going soft over the water, and those giant inflatable ducks bobbing about looking faintly absurd. The ducks have become a local landmark, and they're the reason half the photos of Udon Thani look the way they do.

What's actually here is walking and jogging paths around the lake, paddle boats, a BMX track, open-air seating, and a lot of shade trees. It's a park locals use rather than a park built for tourists, which is exactly why it's worth an hour. If you want to understand what evenings in this city feel like, this is where to stand.
