Why go, and how to do it well
This is a day out, not an hour's stroll. The grounds sit up in Khao Suan Kwang, a fair drive from Khon Kaen city, and they're large enough that walking the whole thing in the middle of the day would be punishing. There's onsite transport to move you between sections, and I'd use it rather than trying to prove something.
It suits families with kids, and anyone traveling in Isan who wants a green, unhurried few hours away from town. The enclosures are spread across open, leafy land, so there's shade in patches but plenty of exposed walkway too. Hat, water, sunscreen. There's a gift shop if you need to bribe a child on the way out.
Gates open at 08:00 and close at 16:00, every day, and that's earlier than people expect. Arriving at two doesn't give you much. Get there for opening, do the far corners first while the air is still reasonable, and work your way back.
