Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park
Spread across 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand, Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park is a protected archipelago of limestone peaks, dense jungle, and sheltered turquoise waters accessible by day tour from Koh Samui. The park is celebrated for its layered shades of green and blue, visible both from the water and from elevated hilltop viewpoints that reward those willing to make the climb. Snorkelling and kayaking are among the most popular activities, with clear waters home to colourful fish and coral, while the lagoon viewpoints — particularly on what visitors often call Monkey Island — rank among the most photographed spots in the region. Two trekking trails offer different experiences: the first is a more accessible walk with rewarding views, while the second, steeper trail is widely regarded as the highlight for those with the energy to complete it. Kayaking through sea caves and around the islands adds another dimension to the visit, and most organised day tours include enough time to experience several of these activities without feeling rushed. The park is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00, and the majority of visitors arrive via organised day tours departing from Koh Samui, which handle transport and entry logistics. Wearing comfortable footwear suitable for uneven trails is recommended, and visitors should bring sun protection for the boat journey and open water sections. Departing early helps secure calmer seas and better light for the viewpoints.

Visitor Reviews
Definitely a place to visit, the day tour to it is very complete with beautiful places and enough time to not feel rushed by the tour and as well do many things. We were lucky we went on a cloudy day so there wasn’t a lot of people, astonishing landmark. The tour consists in a small snorkel dive, visit to a beautiful lagoon, some kayak around a small islet, a very good Thai lunch and a hike to one of the most impactful view I ever witnessed.
Another magical places in Thailand. The waters and trees come in different shades of green and blue. The boat ride from Samui can be long but it is worth the efforts. The highlight is definitely a strenuous yet rewarding "the moon shining cliff". If you are physically fit, please try and embrace the beauty that you will see up there. The lagoon is beautiful as well.
Absolutely stunning marine park with turquoise water, limestone islands, and breathtaking viewpoints. The scenery is incredible, both from the boat and from the hilltop trails. Snorkeling and kayaking are great ways to explore the area. Well organized tours and respectful handling of nature. A must-visit when staying around Koh Samui or Koh Phangan.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
