Rawai Muay Thai is one of the originals — among the first Thai camps built deliberately around foreign students, it spent years on Phuket's Rawai beachfront before relocating up the coast to a purpose-built compound in Khuk Khak, Khao Lak, and taking its name with it. The move traded tourist bustle for exactly what a residential camp wants: on-site rooms around the training area, a quiet coastal town, and nothing between guests and the two-sessions-a-day rhythm. The coaching team of experienced Thai trainers runs one of the most respected structured programs in the country, from genuine fundamentals through fight preparation. Most guests book by the week or month and live on site; Khao Lak's long, calm beaches are minutes away, and the town's low-key restaurant strip covers the evenings. The crowd skews committed — people who chose a camp over a holiday — while remaining one of the friendliest environments in Thailand for a first-timer to start. Good to know: book training-plus-room packages directly with the camp, well ahead for November–April. Khao Lak is 60–90 minutes north of Phuket airport by pre-arranged transfer. Divers take note: the Similan liveaboards leave from this coast, and a train-then-dive fortnight here is one of Thailand's great combinations.
