Phuket Elephant Care
Set in the Thalang district of northern Phuket, this sanctuary offers visitors a genuine, hands-on alternative to traditional elephant tourism. The focus is firmly on animal welfare rather than performance or rides, with elephants that visitors describe as visibly happy and well cared for. Activities centre on participating in the elephants' daily routines, including preparing and feeding food, covering the animals in mud, swimming with them in the lake, and bathing them — making for an immersive experience rather than a passive one. Guides lead small groups throughout, providing context on elephant behaviour and the care the animals receive at the sanctuary. The experience is well suited to families with children, couples, and solo travellers alike. A full-day programme runs approximately six hours and is widely recommended by visitors over shorter options. The sanctuary operates every day of the week from 08:00 to 16:00, giving most travellers flexibility when planning their Phuket itinerary. Booking in advance through the sanctuary's website at phuketelephant.care is strongly advisable, as time slots fill during busy periods. Visitors should wear comfortable clothes they do not mind getting wet and muddy, and bring a change of clothing. The location in Sa Khu, Thalang is best reached by private transport or through an organised pickup, so it is worth confirming transfer arrangements when booking.

Visitor Reviews
We had the most beautiful experience at Elephant Care!!❤️ We started by covering the elephants in mud, then swam with them in the lake, and finished with a shower and feeding session plus we had cooking class and painting:) 📸 They will take photos for you and airdrop them before you go, so you don’t have to worry and you can enjoy the experience 100% 👌🏻Our guide, Sam, was incredibly kind and funny. He shared so many interesting stories about each elephant. You can really feel how much love they have for these animals 🚗There is an option to be picked up from the hotel, our driver was late 30min but we still had a great amount of time with the elephants and didn’t feel rushed or anything ✅Great communication ✅Lots of time with the animals ✅Super entertaining ✅Great food Highly recommend! Ask for Sam as your tour guide!
The caretakers at this sanctuary are very kind, not just to the people visiting but the elephants as well. The elephants look very happy and healthy, so if you're wondering are they well taken care of, yes they are! The tour guide we had, Alex was very friendly, funny, and informational about the dos and don'ts of the visit. Our visit was 3 hours where you prepare the food and feed the elephants, give them mud baths and then clean them in the pool. The tour guide gives you time to change if you want to get dirty or wet, and afterwards they have showers with soap, and towels for you to dry off with. Lastly finishing with a cooking session where you eat what you prepare. Overall an amazing experience and one to really remember. Thank you Alex and all staff of the Elephant Sanctuary in Phuket!!!
Phuket Elephant Care is a fantastic place, especially for families with children. It was an unforgettable experience — the kids loved being able not only to feed the elephants, but also to bathe with them, which made the visit truly special and interactive. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always smiling. You can really feel how much they care about both the elephants and the visitors. Everything was well organized and felt safe and welcoming. There is also a small shop on site where you can buy ice cream, drinks, and snacks, which is very convenient, especially when visiting with kids. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Phuket — a beautiful experience with amazing people and happy elephants 🐘💚

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
