You come to Khao Lak for two dive sites, really, the Similan Islands and Richelieu Rock. Both sit within reach of this stretch of coast and are a long, awkward slog from Phuket in season, which is the whole reason dive operators cluster here. This one runs the full spread, from PADI courses for people who have never breathed underwater to guided fun dives and multi-day liveaboards, and the small group sizes are what I'd point a nervous beginner toward. Thorough briefings and kit that's actually looked after matter more than any brochure line.
Experienced divers should aim straight at the liveaboards. Day trips are fine, but the Similans reward the boat that stays out overnight, and Richelieu Rock in particular deserves more than one dip. Staff speak several languages, which takes the friction out of booking if your Thai stops at hello.
