Why go, and how to do it well

Elephant Hills runs tented camps in Khao Sok National Park, and its elephant experience is the reason it turns up on so many ethical-sanctuary lists. There's no riding. Guests help prepare the elephants' daily food, and the herd eats it at feeding stations in its own free-roaming range, so you watch rather than handle. The jungle Elephant Camp has taken guests for more than 20 years, and a second camp, opened in 2011, floats on Cheow Lan Lake about two hours away.

It's sold only as a package. The jungle safaris run 2, 3 or 4 days at the Elephant Camp, and the Jungle & Lake Camp safaris split the nights between the two camps. All transfers are included, from Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi or Koh Samui, which makes it the easiest way to add an elephant visit to a beach trip in the south.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
