Naem nuang is the reason to come, and honestly it's the reason most people walk through the door at all. Grilled pork, rice paper, a pile of fresh herbs and the condiments to go with them, all landing on the table for you to wrap yourself. It's messy, it takes a few goes to get the hang of, and it's a lot more fun than being handed something finished. The rest of the menu leans Vietnamese too, and prices sit in comfortable mid-range territory, so a table of four won't hurt.
The setting is Rimkhong Road, right along the Mekong in Nong Khai town, near the riverside promenade and within striking distance of the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. The dining room is big, which matters here, because this place gets busy at the obvious hours. If you'd rather eat at your own pace, go mid-morning or mid-afternoon and let the lunch and dinner crowds happen to someone else.
