Nong Thai Restaurants
This family-run restaurant in Ao Nang has earned a devoted following among both locals and travellers for its genuinely authentic Thai cooking. The kitchen is run by the family matriarch, whose home-style dishes reflect regional Thai traditions — including Khao Soi, a northern Thai noodle curry originating from the owner's Chiang Mai roots, which is not always easy to find in the Krabi area. The warm, personal atmosphere of a family business sets it apart from the more commercial dining options along the beachside strip. Visitors can expect a straightforward, well-executed menu featuring Thai classics such as Pad Thai, fried rice, mango salad, and stir-fried dishes, with strong options for vegetarians and vegans. The food is consistently described as well-prepared and honestly priced, making it a practical choice for travellers who want quality without paying resort-area premiums. The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, covering lunch through to late evening. Good to know: The restaurant is genuinely popular and can fill up quickly, particularly during peak season in Krabi. Arriving during mid-afternoon hours or earlier in the evening is likely to mean shorter waits. There is no website for advance reservations, so walk-in timing is worth considering if you are visiting with a group or have a fixed schedule.

Visitor Reviews
Best restaurant in Ao Nang! Friendly staff (family business) the food is amazing! Genuine thai food, very well made. Great prizes and worth coming a long way to eat! We will absolutely come back again!
Absolutely worth the detour or walk. Mother in the kitchen is cooking amazing Thai food for very agreeable prices and the staff is very friendly. This is about as authentic as it gets. The lemongrass prawns are out of this world. Very highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food so we returned the next night. We ordered Chicken Khao Soi, vegetable Pad Thai (best we had), veggie fried rice, stir fry bean sprouts and tofu (vegan), mango salad (vegan) and vegan Khao Soi. It is not on the menu but the owner happily made it for us. The owner is very nice and welcoming. We loved it. Highly recommended!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
