Nong Thai Restaurants
This family-run restaurant in Ao Nang has built a loyal following among locals and travellers alike for its genuinely home-style Thai cooking. The kitchen is led by the family matriarch, whose dishes draw on regional Thai traditions, while the front-of-house staff — known for being warm, friendly, and personable — give the place a welcoming atmosphere that stands apart from the more commercial options along the beachside strip. The menu covers well-executed Thai classics including Pad Thai, fried rice, mango salad, stir-fried dishes, and strong options for vegetarians and vegans. A standout feature is the Khao Soi — a northern Thai noodle curry rooted in the family's Chiang Mai origins — which is not commonly found in the Krabi area and draws visitors specifically seeking it out. Dishes are consistently described as honestly priced and carefully prepared, making this a practical choice for travellers who want quality without resort-area markups. The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, covering lunch through to late evening. Good to know: Nong Thai fills up quickly, particularly during peak season, and there is no website for advance reservations. Walk-ins are the norm, so arriving in the mid-afternoon or earlier in the evening is advisable for those visiting with a group or working to a fixed schedule.

Visitor Reviews
Best restaurant in Ao Nang! Friendly staff (family business) the food is amazing! Genuine thai food, very well made. Great prizes and worth coming a long way to eat! We will absolutely come back again!
Absolutely worth the detour or walk. Mother in the kitchen is cooking amazing Thai food for very agreeable prices and the staff is very friendly. This is about as authentic as it gets. The lemongrass prawns are out of this world. Very highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food so we returned the next night. We ordered Chicken Khao Soi, vegetable Pad Thai (best we had), veggie fried rice, stir fry bean sprouts and tofu (vegan), mango salad (vegan) and vegan Khao Soi. It is not on the menu but the owner happily made it for us. The owner is very nice and welcoming. We loved it. Highly recommended!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
