Tarn Ayutthaya ธาร - Thai Restaurant
Tarn Ayutthaya sits directly on the river in the Ho Rattanachai area, offering one of the more distinctive dining settings in the city. Guests can choose between a shaded terrace, an air-conditioned indoor room, or seating on a floating platform at river level — a setup that gives the place a relaxed, unhurried character that stands out among Ayutthaya's dining options. Bossa nova plays in the background, and the overall atmosphere leans calm and unpretentious. The Thai menu covers a range of local dishes at reasonable prices, and reviewers consistently note good value given the riverside location. A small caveat worth knowing: some visitors have found that certain menu items are unavailable on a given day, so flexibility with ordering is helpful. The food draws genuine praise from most diners, though a handful note that the setting itself is as much a draw as the cooking — the river views and floating seating are a real part of the experience. Good to know: The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it a reliable option for both lunch and dinner throughout the week. No online booking appears to be available, so arriving slightly outside peak meal times is advisable if you prefer a quieter table by the water. The riverside seating at platform level tends to be the most popular spot, so arriving early for dinner gives a better chance of securing it.

Visitor Reviews
We came to Tarn Ayutthaya with no real expectations and ended up being really surprised in the best way. The place is right by the river, and you can actually eat on a floating platform that’s super stylish and beautifully decorated. If you prefer, there’s also an indoor area with AC. The food was amazing, traditional Thai dishes but with a modern twist that made everything feel special and unique. You can tell they really put care into every dish. If you love trying new flavors and just enjoying good food in a nice setting, I’d definitely recommend this place.
The food was absolutely amazing with fairly good prices in a really nicely located site directly at the river. You can choose between the terrace, an AC room and direct river level seating. It seems really modern and high-quality. But it is a bit hard to find at the end of a sketchy-looking alley. They might benefit from better signage. Overall it was a really great experience and is highly recommended!
Such a gem in Ayutthaya, I am surprised by the low number of reviews. Ambience is great with piped bossa nova music. Food is good even though many items in the menu were not available. Had a good lunch here. Will be back sometime to experience the night scenes.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
