Haad Sai Daeng

Haad Sai Daeng, which translates roughly to Red Sand Beach, is one of Koh Tao's quieter shorelines, tucked away on the island's eastern side. Unlike the busier western beaches, it offers a more relaxed atmosphere with calm, clear waters and a distinctive reddish-tinged sand that sets it apart from typical tropical beaches. The surrounding coral reef makes it a popular spot for snorkeling, with marine life visible in relatively shallow water close to shore.

Visitors can expect a laid-back setting with fewer crowds than Koh Tao's main beaches, making it well suited to those looking for a quieter day out. The calmest and clearest water conditions at Haad Sai Daeng tend to occur during the Gulf's dry season, roughly February to September, and the sea is roughest from October to December, when Koh Tao gets most of its rain. Getting there typically requires a short journey from Koh Tao's main pier at Mae Haad, either by taxi, motorbike, or arranged transport. Visitors planning to snorkel should consider bringing their own equipment, as rental options in this part of the island may be limited compared to the busier beach areas.
