Why go, and how to do it well

Chai Chet is the northern end of the long Klong Prao bay on Koh Chang's west coast, between White Sand Beach and Klong Prao. The sand is soft and white, there are trees for shade, and the water slopes in gently, so it suits families and anyone who wants a quieter beach than White Sand without being far from the shops.

The north end is the busier part, with beer bars and a few plazas along the road, and it gets quieter as you walk south, where resorts and their bungalows back the sand. The road behind has a 7-Eleven, a Lotus supermarket and a gas station, so it's an easy base for a stay.

Tips for Visiting Beaches

Go Early for Empty Sand

Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. A sunrise walk is the best hour of the day on the sand, and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
