Archaeological Site Banprasat

Situated in Nakhon Ratchasima province, this archaeological site offers a rare window into prehistoric life in northeast Thailand. Ban Prasat is recognised as one of the region's most significant archaeological discoveries, where excavations have uncovered human skeletal remains, pottery, bronze ornaments, and other artefacts dating back over 3,000 years. The site provides compelling evidence of an organised ancient community that once thrived in this part of the Khorat Plateau, making it a genuinely rewarding stop for history enthusiasts and culturally curious travellers alike. Visitors can explore three open excavation pits where skeletal remains and burial artefacts are preserved in situ, allowing for an unusually direct and unmediated encounter with the past. As the site involves outdoor excavation areas, lightweight, breathable clothing and sun protection are strongly recommended, particularly during the hotter months between March and May. The location sits along Thanon Mittraphap in Amphoe Non Sung, making it accessible by road from Korat city, though having private transport or arranging a day trip in advance will make the journey considerably easier.
